Since Christmas 2000, I've held an annual barbecue for the local open source hackers. The eight, the first to be held in Dereel, started on 5 January 2008. Since all the guests came from New South Wales, it also lasted two days, and to add to the fun, we had a wedding thrown in. Chris Yeardley and I were the witnesses to the marriage ceremony between David Yeardley (her ex-husband) and Fifi:

Back home and had a long wait for the BUGS contingent (Edwin Groothuis, Sam Lawrance and Juha Kupiainen), whom we finally located in Ballarat round the time the first steaks were ready. They showed up after a while and we had a pleasant time, despite the heat (36°). Despite the incredible quantities of food we had bought, we nearly got through it all.

We didn't do much hacking this year, however; possibly the heat was a contributing factor. The BUGS people stayed the night, so we carried on into the evening, though the others had been up since 4 am to get the flights down here, so they didn't stay up late. Edwin brought his Hypnocube for the delight of all:

The following day we had a different kind of breakfast: Edwin cooked some Poffertjes, which I've never had before.

Not bad, but too sweet for me. Then they headed off along the Great Ocean Road and left me to process the photos I took yesterday, all 800 MB of them.
