From groggyhimself@lemis.com Mon Feb 27 17:47:02 2023 Date: Mon, 27 Feb 2023 17:47:02 +1100 From: Greg 'groggy' Lehey To: Luke Parry Subject: Re: Stones Road PV system problems Message-ID: <20230227064702.GA53230@eureka.lemis.com> Luke, it's been 9 months since you said you would look at the problems I'm having with my PV system, and you haven't responded in that time. The current situation is: * Nobody has explained what happened to the system on 11 May 2022. It's clear that the inverter failed, but why? This is the question you were going to research. * Since then, in almost every case the inverter does not weather a grid power outage correctly. It causes a brief outage to the loads, between about 0.5 and 3 seconds. This causes my main computer to fail, something that can take up to 3 hours to recover from. * The inverter reports short power outages where there are none, typically lasting between 1 and 10 seconds. So far this hasn't caused any outages, but it's indicative of something not working correctly. One of the main reasons I installed a battery-backed system was to avoid most brief power outages. That worked well until last year, but in the last 4 outages the inverter interrupted supply. I'm not prepared to put up with this. Could you please investigate the matter and get back to me by CoB on 10 March. I expect that the system should be able to weather this kind of outage without interruption to the loads, and also that it should not invent outages that don't exist. Powercor has announced yet another outage on 7 March, so it would be good to have something in place before then. A first step in the problem investigation would presumably to bring the device firmware up to date. The most recent update caused a power outage by itself (see http://www.lemis.com/grog/diary-dec2021.php?subtitle=Inverter%20firmware%20upgrade&article=D-20211214-010219#D-20211214-010219), and I haven't wanted to go through that again. If you update the firmware, please contact me first. I don't want yet another outage. You may find the statistics at http://www.lemis.com/grog/powercor/power-failures.php#bottom of interest. I'm attaching the inverter output for the most recent case of the invented short power outages (22 February, 2 "outages" of 2 seconds each) as an example of the third problem. You can reach me at 5309 0418 if you'd like to discuss the matter, or to coordinate a firmware upgrade.
