This page shows a comparison of processing the same photo (raw image) from an Olympus OM-D E-M1 with the
M.Zuiko
12-40 mm Pro lens. I processed it with Olympus Viewer 3 and
DxO Optics “Pro”. I haven't used “Viewer” much, and the results are clearly not very good. I'm using the
latest version 1.1, which for some reason didn't install any documentation, and I haven't
found a way to improve the images. I've been using DxO for some years now, so the
difference in quality may have something to do with my experience.
DxO only supports the E-M1 with the “Elite” version. I have the “standard” version for my
E-30, and it
refuses even to select the images. So I installed a trial version of the “Elite” version,
and was surprised to discover that the body isn't supported! But it does process the
images, just without correction for distortion and chromatic aberration. The results look
significantly better than my results from “Viewer”. But it's clear that the lens has
significant barrel distortion, and it shows in the DxO-processed image. Here's the “Viewer”
output and then the DxO output. Running the cursor over either image shows the other one, or
Clearly DxO is useless for lenses that it doesn't support. And unfortunately that's most of
Olympus' better lenses.
