In Reply to: 87-09-11 20:37 FROM LAMKIN_JOYCE @TSII COSIG: Does anyone have a recipe for Sangria? My recipe for sangria is something which sort of came to me while I was falling asleep -- no, I wasn't at my desk at the time. Gees! EARLY BIRD SANGRIA 1 mid-sized automobile 1/2 tank of gas 1 driver's license 1 automobile insurance policy clothing (see instructions) 1 bar ivory soap washcloth favorite shower toy bath or shower tooth brush tooth paste comb eye shadow (see text) alarm clock address of nearest 24-hour Liquor Barn a bag filled with $2.95 in pennies Ok, let's get to it. Use the alarm clock to wake at about 4am. This is important. We're going to mount a surprise attack on the night shift at Liquor Barn. Zow! Shower, don't shave. Apply the eye shadow in the eye sockets just enough to get that Don Johnson look. Men, you can try it if you want. It will work wonders at the checkout counter. Put the driver's license in your pocket. Be sure the automobile is gassed, and insured, and then warm it for about 45 seconds. Don't forget to bring along the shower toy. Be patient. Feel tired. While the engine is warming, examine your tongue in the mirror. Drive to the nearest 24-hour Liquor Barn and stagger over to your favorite Sangria display (I think they now have a special on SANGRIA SANGRIA MARIA.) Pick up a bottle and drop it. Stand there in the puddle and wait for the staff to come to mop up. When the mopper arrives (yell for one if they are slow, remember, time is money) ask if he can recommend a good Sangria. Keep humming the melody from La Bamba. If you know some of the words, let them slip out occasionaly. This behavior, and your appearance, should be enough to cause them to want you to leave. The staff will select a Sangria to your liking (much like waiters in a fine restaurant) and they will hand carry it as they escort you to the checkout. Now be smoothe. (Armen, that's the old spelling of "smooth", so don't start.) Let them ring up the bottle before you even move like you have money. When they put the bottle in a bag and announce "Three oh six, please", make your move. Pull out the sack of pennies and start stacking them on the counter. Mumble something like "I thin' I got dat". (For the right accent I use the intonation made famous by Lucille Ball's husband) Stack the pennies in little piles of 5 cents each. I've never gotten further than $2.70 in stacks before they say, "OK, THAT'S CLOSE ENOUGH, COME AGAIN." When you get home, brush your teeth and comb your hair. Gees, Armen, do I have to tell you everything ? Did we forget to put on clothes ? Look in the mirror. ------------------------ ORIGINAL ATTACHMENT ------------------------ SENT: 87-09-11 20:37 FROM: LAMKIN_JOYCE @TSII TO: LEHEY_GREG.COSIG @ESSG SUBJECT: COSIG: Does anyone have a recipe for Sangria? HI JOYCE, HERE'S ONE I FOUND IN A COOKBOOK OF SPANISH FOODS: 1/2 GALLON DRY RED WINE 1/3 CUP SUGAR 1/3 CUP BRANDY 3 LARGE ORANGES 2 LARGE LEMONS 1/4 CUP TRIPLE SEC ICE CUBES 1 TO 1 1/2 CUPS CLUB SODA POUR WINE INTO PUNCH BOWL. STIR IN SUGAR AND BRANDY. CUT 2 ORANGES INTO EIGHTHS AND 1 LEMON INTO QUARTERS. SQUEEZE THE JUICE FROM EACH PIECE INTO THE WINE, THEN DROP THE FRUIT INTO THE PUNCH BOWL. STIR AGAIN AND CHILL FOR AN HOUR OR TWO WITH THE FRUIT. (THE CUT, SQUASHED FRUIT CAN NOW BE REMOVED IF YOU WANT AN ELEGANT SANGRIA, OR IT CAN BE LEFT IN IF YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT LOOKS.) HALVE AND THINLY SLICE THE REMAINING ORANGE AND LEMON. ADD THE SLICED FRUIT TO THE SANGRIA, FLOATING IT ON TOP. STIR IN THE TRIPLE SEC, ADD JUST ENOUGH ICE TO KEEP THE SANGRIA COLD, AND JUST BEFORE SERVING, POUR IN SOME CLUB SODA. GIVE IT ONE FINAL STIR, POUR, AND ENJOY. YOU CAN ELABORATE ON THIS BY ADDING SLICES OF VARIOUS OTHER FRUITS SUCH AS APPLES,BANANAS, ETC. MAKES ALMOST 3 QUARTS. Mix in fruit slices to tast. Cover and chill for 3 - 4 hours. To server, mix in club soda, then add ice. Garnish with additional sliced fruit if you wish. (Once I substituted some orange juice for some of the limeade, it tasted fine)
