Hi, I've grown it before, and it seems to do well in moist, but NOT WET, loamy soil with some sand mixed in. Select a nice fresh root for planting and fertilize it occasionally. When you need to use some just dig it up and cut off a piece, then put it back. It grows very slowly, so if you use a lot of it you may as well buy it and just grow some as an ornamental. It gets about 12 inches to 3 feet tall, depending on light and soil conditions. Matt Riesz -------------------- FORWARD 30 Jul 87 12:00 From LEHEY_GREG : ?? Growing Ginger ?? Any ideas? I'd like to know too. Greg -------------------- ORIGINAL 29 Jul 87 19:47 From WILKENS_THOMAS : 3:?? Growing Ginger ?? Howdy, About a week ago I discovered a (hidden) piece of ginger growing on a shelf in my kitchen. The plant (about 2 cm long) is quite interesting and, since my wife and I do a considerable amount of cooking with ginger, I was wondering if anyone out there might have any tips on its cultivation. I have read that ginger (the root) will keep preserved in a moist, sandy environment. (Is this so?) Since ginger is indigenous to tropical Asia I assume the ideal environment would be hot and humid--not always the case in central Europe. Can anyone give me some further information? Thanks Thomas Wilkens Frankfurt PS: Replies will be kept in \mad.$data1.twmail.ginger
